About

I'm all about the food. Eating it, writing about it, reading about it, talking about it, thinking about it.  And cooking it. I have no formal training whatsoever, and I don't claim to be an expert. But I feel comfortable and happy in the kitchen, either experimenting or cooking up an old favorite.
What I do know has come from many  sources - friends, a huge collection of cookbooks, an addiction to cooking magazines, the Food Network (hello Tyler Florence!) and other food bloggers.

There's so much out there to taste!
I love anything hot and spicy, loaded with garlic and ginger and lime and chilies. I love all things Italian, from ribollita to granita. Je t'aime the art of French pastry (such as a mignardise) and the cafe life of Paris. I love a cold glass of Torrontes from Argentina and a prickly pear margarita from Arizona. And I love the flavors of my little corner of America - maple, fresh seafood, tomatoes from the September farmer's market.

And chocolate. Anything chocolate. You'll find me coming back to all kinds of chocolate recipes over and over. I just can't quit it. Nor do I want to.

Thanks for visiting me at  Mignardise.  I hope you'll enjoy what you see here, make comments and ask questions. I hope you'll visit often, or better yet subscribe (it's free!).

And thanks for humoring me. It's not often I get to say whatever I want and no one interrupts.

  3. Hi Karen
This site is beautifully done, and I am excited to share your recipe suggestions with my family. When cooking for only three (Peter, Claudia, and myself), it is easy to fall into the cooking blahs...cooking the same "favorites" over and over.I also need recipes to make batches that can last two nights, and "ease to freeze". I gave your card to my sister-in-law Anne Loomis (Kim's mom). She is also always searching, and studied nutrition in college, although that is not her occupation now. Congratualations on your work on this site.It is ovely! I need A LOT of help. Much more than Rachel Ray!

    Sincerely,
    Kari Vigue

  4. Karen,
Stumbled upon your page and am savoring every word....you brought back two wonderful memories...the YES Maple Sugar Field Trip and the Chinese restaurants from your childhood. I grew up in Belmont and frequented all the same chinese cuisine as you and your family. In my family, Friday was "go out to eat" night with chinese being our 1st choice. In the early 80's my husband and I made our first home in Needham before moving to Yarmouth. I look forward to reading more of your culinary adventures.
And, thank you for allowing me a glimpse back into the chinese restaurants of my past.

Fennel and orange have an affinity for each other and with those deliciously simple brine-cured olives..... and that creamy goat cheese... YUM! Just perfect. Thank you so much for sharing. Love your website also...

  6. I heard about your website from a trainer at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth. Very glad he recommended I look you up. I love to cook as well, have read many of the books you suggest . The Barefoot Contessa is playing in the background.
Recently downloaded The Love Goddess Cooking School to my Kindle - was unaware that she is a Maine author. Would love to read the Map book .
Will visit your blog often. Great fun.
