Did you get the memo that said Thursday February 5 is World Nutella Day? I did.
I got it from Ms. Adventures in Italy, a blog by a lucky young American who happens to live in Italy. Go to her site and learn 50 ways to eat Nutella.
My favorite way? On a banana! Or in a crepe. Or in a crepe with a banana!
If you haven't yet been introduced to Nutella, it's a chocolate-y, nutty, yummy, creamy treat from Italy that you can find in your own grocery store. Smooth and spreadable like peanut butter, but chocolate with a hint of hazelnut. And you don't even have to go to la groceria italiana to get this little bit of heaven.
Go get yourself a jar. Now, before World Nutella Day passes you by! Try one of Ms. Adventure's delicious suggestions, or use it to bake...
Nutella Cupcakes, from Baking Bites
10 Tbsps. unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup white sugar
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
(that means sift first, then measure)
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
Nutella, about 1/3 cup (a little more is always better)
Preheat oven to 325. Line 12 muffin tin with paper liners.
Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add in eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated. Don't worry of the batter looks curdled. Add vanilla.
Stir in flour, salt and baking powder until thoroughly combined and no flour remains.
Fill each paper liner with batter, 3/4 full. Top each cupcake with approx. 1 1/2 tsps. Nutella.
Swirl Nutella and batter together with a toothpick, making sure to fold a bit of the batter up over Nutella. Bake 20-25 mins., until toothpick inserted into middle comes out clean (except for the Nutella). Remove to a wire rack and cool completely.
Caution! Once you've tried Nutella, it's easy to get hooked. See this post by Bleeding Espresso (another lucky girl living and drinking coffee in Italy) to find out if you are truly addicted.
Those look excellent!
ReplyDeleteI have never bought Nutella, but now I will!
Oh you must get some, but seriously, it is hard to stop eating...
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot in common, I start every morning with a nutella slathered banana :-) These days I'm counting calories but Nutella is my chocolate fix for the day. If you compare labels, Nutella is less fat and calories than peanut butter as well. I'm off to check the other two blogs and see the ideas they have. One I've saved for years was Giada's fried nutella won tons :-)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had never been introduced to Nutella! I love it so much!
ReplyDeleteI've tried adding it to cookies, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted to. These cupcakes my kids will go crazy over. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Love Nutella - the one recipe I started with and make quite often is Giada's Chocolate-Hazelnut Ravioli (Marsha, I think it is the same one you spoke of!!)
ReplyDeleteYou need to store it in a remote area or you will never stop "sampling"...Great post Karen!

ReplyDeleteI agree Karen - it is difficult to stop 'sampling'..Great post!!
Those look truly decadent. February is fast becoming my favorite month!
ReplyDeleteI've searched high and low for the imported version made for sale in Italy - which is the original recipe and has no vanilla and more importantly, no palm oil (inexplicable recipe change for US market). Have you ever found any?
How did I miss this? Well, Its a good thing I can still make today my Nutella day :) Also love it with banana and peanutbutter :)
ReplyDeleteI am so not a baker but I could definitely make these - they sound yummy!
ReplyDelete"They" used to talk about "smell-o-vision" - heck no, I want "taste-o-vision," that way, all the tongue marks on my computer monitor would make much more sense....!!
Those cupcakes look wonderful, Karen! I haven't had Nutella in ages - I need to try it again.
ReplyDeleteMarsha, the fact that Nutella has less fat than peanut butter is the best rationalization I've heard all day.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, hope your kids enjoyed the cupcakes as much as mine did.
Foley, I haven't tried Giada's recipe but I hope to soon. Must go out and buy more Nutella.
Anna, I'll do some research about the "real" version and get back to you. I may have to sample a few jars for those research purposes.
Alisa, thanks for stopping by. Start now to get ready for next year's World Nutella Day!
And yes Susan, you do need to try it again - asap!
Those nutella cupcakes sound amazing! I first tried nutella at the Merry Table Creperie last summer and have been hooked on the stuff ever since.
ReplyDeleteErin, I've been trying to the Merry Table all winter. There's still plenty of winter left, so I'm sure I'll get a chance.
ReplyDeleteThose cupcakes look luscious! What a great recipe!
ReplyDeleteI love Nutella!
ReplyDeleteI decorated my Zebra Cake with Nutella, it was so yummy! jeje
